TLM is adding a bit of Uber Flavour with a POP of Colour

As you know, The Linden Market lives to celebrate and support the local craftsmen and creatives of South Africa, especially those from our vibrant city, Johannesburg. For our Autumn edition taking place on Saturday 7 April at The Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia, we thought it best to have our creators collaborate with 2 very exciting local brands POP Paints and Über Flavour Craft Ice Tea. So, we are adding a little flavour to our market with a pop of colour with 6 creative women who will be painting a live mural on an unexpected canvas.

After enjoying an energising morning yoga session, grab a refreshing Über Flavour Craft Ice Tea or a glass of bubbly, which ever you please, and relax under the trees while watching our artists in action. We are very excited to have Ilze Mari Wessels, Celeste Theron, Octavia Roodt, Melissa Fontini, Lezanne Viviers and Bianca Buisman at the Market giving us a little insight into their creative minds and processes.

Let us introduce you to them:

Ilze Mari Wessels is an architect by practice and self-taught artist who chooses to spend her time working with all mediums, ranging from paint, photographs to polylines, configuring them as tools for the communication of place, space, form, waste and utopia. Her work deals with methods of mapping that navigate not only physical places and their narrative, but also more heterotopic places such as dialogue.

Celeste Theron’s body of work ranges from traditional drawing and sculpture to process-orientated (time-based) action art – the performance of which suggested how art may exercise a healing effect on both the artist and the audience when it takes up psychological, social, and political subjects. In 2015 she was selected as an Emerging Creative at Design Indaba and co-founded the design collective She. She has been working as an artist and graphic designer ever since.

After finishing a B.A. in Information Design at the University of Pretoria, Octavia Roodt returns to Johannesburg to grapple with Afrikaner identity, gender and postmodernism in illustrative artworks that take visual inspiration from Belgian comics whilst trying to tap into South African youth.

Melissa Fontini graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Studies and a post-graduate Diploma from AAA School of Advertising. She went from the creative thinkers in adland to the wild life on the road. In November 2015 Melissa quit her job and travelled and lived all over South Africa and beyond – managing an accomplished artist, writing and illustrating. Her style is raw and playful with a focus on femininity. Her work focusses on her personal journey as a woman, telling the stories of her heart and mind. Melissa is now based in Johannesburg where she is the founder and director of a music industry initiative, Bandustry.

Lezanne Viviers, the Creative Director of Marianne Fassler, does not only dabble in the world of fashion. Her playful and quirky nature carries through all aspects of her life and into her art and ceramics. She has an eye for the unusual and she believes by experiencing both beauty and intense emotions through exquisitely applied human skills and craft techniques, you experience art.

And last, but not least. Bianca Buisman is an Art Director by trade who explores, conjures and develops ideas for select companies and her own personal body of work. She loves building on strategy, design, illustration, video editing, photography and handmade growing projects fortifying herself into more of a maker.

These artists will pick up their paintbrushes at the Linden Market on the morning of the 7th of April and tell their stories visually – adding to the mood, supporting our mantra and celebrating women in the industry. This is something we are looking forward to.
