The Linden Market Winter Edition was once again a great hit on the Jozi Winter Calendar with an amazing attendance of just over 5000 people. We would like to thank everyone involved, from vendors to our known local supporters and first timers!
The morning started out quite chilly with the temperature at around 6 degrees while all the vendors were setting up their fantastic stalls, from handmade jewellery, décor and fashion, to gourmet food and crafted drinks. Many thanks to our vendors who were brilliant in getting everything ready sharpish, you guys played a significant part in making the market run smoothly. With the gates open by 9am, our amazing coffee and breakfast masters like Morning Glory (a TLM Newcomer) serving bubble and pop waffles, and The Honest Grazer serving beautifully created plant-based comfort food were met by early market goers looking to warm up and enjoy the chilled winter morning at the beautiful Botanic Gardens.
Upon entering at the gate, people were met by a truly beautiful display of colourful flowers by Fleur Dita, My Garden Bird feeders and other plant vendors that created a peaceful and tranquil setting.

Morning entertainment was opened by Joshua Moreira, a very talented young man that graced us with his beautiful voice, original songs and a selection of familiar cover songs. We are certain of a bright future in music for Joshua. Next up was Fritz Gun that picked up the vibe with an acoustic bluesy rock feel followed by a solo act by the name of Janie Bay. A force to be reckoned with in the female singer songwriter category that has been nominated for a South African Music award for one of her newly released singles.
The main act of the day was The Barbosa Experience.
The Barbosa Experience started a few years ago under the name The Captain Barbosa Experience and was the solo-project of the Mozambican lead singer of Mrs. B Pedro Barbosa. Pedro started out for fun, laughs and free drinks but after a short while found out that there is a need for someone who can bring life to existing and new songs with an acoustic guitar with Latino passion from the heart. Peter the Dutch guitar genius joined Pedro, adding some virtuoso guitar licks and vocals to the mix. Together there is not much that they can’t play which made their appearance at The Linden Market even more special.
The Barbosa experience play with passion, intense emotion, and are keen to impress with small songs or wild sing-alongs. They certainly added a lot of fun to the already festive Linden Market atmosphere while turning heads among market goers of any cultural denomination.
Whilst being intimately entertained in the big red Bedouin tent, many market goers ambled around the grounds indulging in the multitude of foods prepared by our carefully selected food vendors. This was indeed a multi-cultural food fest in the upper echelon of the original food world.
Let’s not forget the lovely Bubbles supplied by one of our Sponsors, Simonsig Wines, with their very tasty varieties of MCC, Red and White wines. They certainly made for a bubbly experience that many a market goer will not soon forget. The Bullcook Brewing company was there with two stands, supplying the Market with the expertly crafted Ale, Lager and Blonde beers. We couldn’t help but notice a few return visits to their funky Rolling Beerbikes…
There were cocktails of many kinds as well as virgin cocktails and gin, not to mention the Polish Lemon Liquor stand serving lovely refreshing alcohol infused shots of lemon and coffee.

The lifestyle Vendor section was again a fantastic experience.
There were many variations of fashion exhibitors fit for all types of styles from the funky floral-patterned skirts of glare modern vintage to the edgy black and white slashed t-shirts of Vintage Zionist. Our carefully selected list of vendors always exhibit their handcrafted perfections such as fragrant body products, hand stitched leather bags and shoes, brass, silver and wooden jewellery and out of the box furniture designs that will leave you wanting to re-decorate
We very much look forward to the Spring Edition to see what our vendors have in ‘stall’ for us! Don’t miss out and join us on the 29th of September at The Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia! Gates open at 9am.
